We are interested in new surplus, unused material, overstock, cancelled-project inventory, discontinued stock and suitable surplus wire from completed jobs. Every lot is reviewed on its own details and photos — we do not promise to buy material regardless of condition, and we will tell you plainly when a lot is not a fit.

02 Types and sizes

Wire types and sizes we quote

Pick the family closest to your material. Each page lists the constructions, the markings we look for and the condition details that change a quote.

Common conductor sizes and where they are used
Size rangeTypical ampacityWhere it shows up
#14 – #1015 – 30 ADevice wiring, control panels, lighting circuits, fixture whips
#8 – #640 – 55 ARanges, sub-panels, small feeders, HVAC disconnects
#4 – #170 – 130 AFeeders, service risers, machinery drops, grounding
1/0 – 4/0120 – 230 AService entrances, main feeders, distribution, switchboard ties
250 – 500 MCM255 – 380 AParallel feeders, industrial distribution, large service laterals

Ampacities are approximate copper values at 75°C, listed only to help identify material. They are not installation guidance.

03 Who we buy from

Contractors, distributors, plants and institutions across Michigan

Surplus wire accumulates in different ways depending on who you are. We buy from all of these sellers and understand how each one ends up holding extra material.

Electrical contractors

Leftover reel quantities from a completed job, wire pulled short, service upgrades that changed the design, and stock that has been riding in the shop for years.

Electrical distributors and wholesalers

Discontinued stock, slow-moving sizes, special-order reels a customer never picked up, damaged packaging and returned material that cannot go back on the shelf.

Manufacturers and industrial facilities

Plant upgrades, line moves, automation projects and maintenance stock that no longer matches the equipment on the floor.

Utilities and infrastructure contractors

Distribution cable, URD and medium-voltage reels left from a project, plus spare cut lengths that are too short for the next run.

Data centers, telecom and technology facilities

Power cable from phased builds, oversupplied feeder runs and decommissioned infrastructure.

Hospitals, universities and institutional campuses

Renovation surplus, emergency-power projects and maintenance stock from buildings that have changed use.

Warehousing, logistics and food processing

Cable from conveyor installs, refrigeration projects and expansions, often still on the original reels.

Demolition and decommissioning contractors

Removed cable in usable lengths, recovered copper, and material pulled during plant shutdowns or teardowns.

04 How it works

Three steps, no obligation to accept

  1. Send the details and photos

Use the form on this page, email us, or call. A photo of the reel tag or the jacket legend is worth more than a description — it tells us the construction, the size and the voltage in one shot.

  2. We review the lot and come back with a number

We check the type, size, condition and quantity against what we can place, then quote the material. If a lot is not something we can buy, we say so and explain why.

  3. Coordinate pickup, loading and payment

If you accept, we arrange removal — dock, forklift or ground level — and settle the transaction directly with you. Nothing is removed until the terms are confirmed in writing.

There is no charge to submit material for review, and no obligation to sell if the number does not work for you. Read the full process →

06 Scope

What we do not buy

Keeping the scope narrow is deliberate. We buy wire and cable, and we are good at pricing it. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery, vehicles or unrelated surplus equipment, so please do not send those for review.

If your lot is mixed — cable plus switchgear plus panels — describe the cable portion and we will quote that. The rest belongs with a dealer who specializes in it.

Condition matters more than brand

New surplus, unused and clean partial reels are the easiest to quote. Used cable, sun-damaged jacket, crushed reels, wet or dirty material and wire with no markings are reviewed case by case, and some of it we will decline.

Don’t scrap it

LEFTOVER PROJECT WIRE? SELL IT NOW.

Wire left over from a completed job, a cancelled order or a plant upgrade still has value as wire. Scrapping it pays by the pound and loses the rest. Send the type, size, footage and a few photos, and we will quote the lot as material.

What helps us quote fast

  • Cable markings and jacket legends from the reel tag
  • Total footage, reel count or an estimated weight
  • Whether the material is new surplus, unused or a partial reel
  • How a truck gets to it — dock, forklift, ground level

Most useful shots: overall reels or spools, the cable markings printed on the jacket, the reel tag or label, wire ends, and anything that shows condition. Markings and tags are what let us quote quickly.

FAQStraight answers

Questions sellers ask before they call

Do you buy partial reels of wire?

Yes. Partial reels are common and we quote them regularly, as long as the remaining length is known or can be estimated. Tell us roughly how many feet are left, or send a photo that shows the wrap and the tag.

Will you buy wire that has already been installed?

Sometimes. Removed cable with an intact jacket and legible markings is reviewed case by case. Cable that has been pulled through conduit, damaged during removal, or left in the weather for years is usually not something we can use.

Do you buy aluminum wire as well as copper?

Yes. Aluminum SER, SEU, URD, USE-2 and XHHW feeders are all material we buy. Aluminum is priced on its own market, not at copper values, so the quote will reflect that.

What is the smallest quantity you will look at?

A single full reel of copper building wire or service cable is worth a conversation. Smaller lots are usually not economical to move, but send the details and we will tell you honestly whether it makes sense.

Do you pick up material in Michigan?

Yes. Removal is arranged with each seller based on the material, the access at the site and the size of the load. Tell us about dock access, forklifts and reel weights in the form and we will plan around it.

How is surplus wire priced?

Four things drive the number: the metal and its current market, the conductor size and construction, the quantity, and the condition of the jacket and reels. Legible markings and original reel tags make a quote faster and more accurate.

How do I get a quote started?

Fill in the quote form with the wire type, size, quantity and location, then add photos of the reels, the jacket markings and any tags. You can also call +1 (614) 715-3047 or email saleselectricalbuyers@gmail.com.
