SELL SURPLUS WELDING CABLE AND SOOW CORD

Flexible cable lives hard, but unused welding lead and portable cord is common in fab shops, rental fleets, plants and entertainment work — and it is priced on copper content plus jacket condition.

Leftover project wire? Sell it now — don’t scrap it.

01 Welding cable

Welding cable

Welding cable is a 600V single-conductor cable built from very fine rope-lay copper strands so it stays flexible under repeated flexing and coiling. Sizes run from #6 through 4/0, with #2 and 1/0 the most common in shops.

Jackets are usually EPDM or neoprene in black, red, blue, green or orange. Unused spools and coils from a fab shop or rental fleet are straightforward to quote; used lead is reviewed on jacket condition and strand damage.

02 SOOW

SOOW and portable cord

  • SOOW — 600V oil-resistant thermoset portable cord, 18/2 through 10/4, in black and yellow.
  • SEOOW and STOW — related portable cord constructions with different jacket ratings.
  • Stage and entertainment cable — 12/3 and 14/3 SOOW, often in long lengths and used for touring.
  • Flexible control and tray-rated flexible cable — continuous-flex constructions for moving equipment.

Portable cord is usually surplus in full 250 ft or 500 ft coils, or as cut lengths from a rental or events operation.

03 Condition

What matters on flexible cable

  • Jacket condition — cuts, abrasion, heat damage and flat spots from being run over.
  • Strand damage — broken strands at the ends or where the cable has been flexed repeatedly.
  • Contamination — oil and coolant soaked jackets are harder to handle and lower value.
  • Length and size — printed on the jacket, or measurable from a coil.
  • Connectors — cut ends and installed lugs are normal; moulded ends are not a problem either.

What helps us quote fast

  • Cable markings and jacket legends from the reel tag
  • Total footage, reel count or an estimated weight
  • Whether the material is new surplus, unused or a partial reel
  • How a truck gets to it — dock, forklift, ground level

Most useful shots: overall reels or spools, the cable markings printed on the jacket, the reel tag or label, wire ends, and anything that shows condition. Markings and tags are what let us quote quickly.

FAQStraight answers

Questions sellers ask before they call

Do you buy used welding cable?

Yes, when the jacket is intact and the length is meaningful. Heavily abraded or oil-soaked lead is reviewed cautiously.

Do you buy SOOW in short lengths?

Cut lengths are considered when they are clean and the size is identifiable. Full coils are easier to price.

Do you buy stage and entertainment cable?

Yes, including 12/3 and 14/3 SOOW from production and rental inventories.

Do you buy portable cord with moulded ends?

Yes. Ends do not affect the material value, though cut or damaged ends are noted.
