FAQ
SURPLUS WIRE QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
The questions sellers ask most often, with direct answers. If yours is not here, call or email and you will get a real response, not a form letter.
Leftover project wire? Sell it now — don’t scrap it.
What we buy and what we skip
We buy electrical wire and cable only. That includes building wire, industrial cable, service and underground cable, specialty and flexible cable, and medium and high voltage cable. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, breakers, MCCs, generators, bus plugs, chillers, machinery or vehicles.
Within wire, condition decides everything. New surplus, unused material, overstock and clean partial reels are straightforward. Used, weather-beaten or unmarked material is reviewed case by case.
What we need to quote
The form asks for wire type, metal, size, voltage, conductor count, quantity, condition, packaging and location, plus photos. You do not need every field — send what you know.
The single most useful item is a photo of the reel tag or the jacket legend. It confirms the construction and size, which are the two inputs that move a price most.
Pricing, payment and removal
Quotes are based on the metal, the size and construction, the quantity and the condition, with logistics factored in. Copper and aluminum move with their markets, so pricing reflects the market at the time of the offer.
Payment and removal terms are agreed in writing before anything leaves your site. Removal is arranged as part of that transaction.
Questions sellers ask before they call
Do you buy partial reels?
Yes. Partial reels are common. Tell us the approximate remaining footage or send a photo that shows the wrap and the tag.
Do you buy used wire?
Sometimes, case by case. Removed cable with an intact jacket and legible markings can be reviewed. Cable damaged during removal, buried, or left outdoors for years is usually declined.
Do you buy aluminum wire?
Yes — SER, SEU, URD, USE-2 and aluminum XHHW feeders. Aluminum is priced on its own market rather than at copper values.
Do you buy bare copper and grounding wire?
Yes, including bare copper grounding conductors, green insulated ground wire and bonding jumpers.
Do you buy medium-voltage cable?
Yes. 5kV through 69kV, EPR and XLPE, concentric neutral and shielded constructions. A single full reel can be worth a serious conversation.
What is the smallest lot you will quote?
One full reel of copper building wire or service cable is enough to start a conversation. Very small quantities are usually not economical to move, and we will say so.
Do you buy wire with no markings?
Unmarked wire is difficult to identify and usually declined. If some printing survives on the jacket or on the inner conductors, photograph it.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Review is free and there is no obligation to accept an offer.
Do you pick up in Michigan?
Yes, statewide. Tell us about dock access, forklifts and reel weights so removal can be planned properly.
Will you sign an NDA or vendor form?
Tell us what your process requires and we will work through it before pickup.

What helps us quote fast
- Cable markings and jacket legends from the reel tag
- Total footage, reel count or an estimated weight
- Whether the material is new surplus, unused or a partial reel
- How a truck gets to it — dock, forklift, ground level
